First times are not repeatable.
Did Ann Patchett feel like this with her first book? So much like the beginner I am? And will I ever feel like this again? I don’t think so. But then second and third times are themselves too. Even with practice, some context, some moment, an atmosphere, a vibration, something will be different and deserving of its own belonging, its own homage.
It’s remarkable to manifest something. “Magic” to come up with a plan and then watch it happen. At this, the design stage, Shanghaied, is taking shape, becoming embodied, materializing…right before my eyes. Even so, I’m not sure it’s real. “It has to be seen to believed…and believed to be seen.”
I’ve been volunteering a little in the construction of a stage at what amounts to our island’s community center. A huge pile of lumber, through many steps, visions, ideas and skills, is taking shape. Unique shape, no matter how many things this team has built. Wow! What we can imagine and then do!
