Movie anyone?

Wind in the Rigging by Montague Dawson (1890-1973)

I admire this painting! It lets us accurately see what it REALLY was/is like out there on the forever-moving ocean. The ship is charging ahead from the lower left of the painting, away toward the upper right. “Full and by” in a lot of wind, just “a day at the office” for the sailors sailing her. “Living at an angle,” steep for you and I, typical for them. Strange what we can get used to, eh?

This is especially poignant for me, having just sailed up the coast from L.A. The wind and current were against us 90% of the time. It was “uphill all the way.” Instead of 10 to 15 days, it took 18. Enough of that! And thank you to my intrepid crew: Jim and Chris.

In the meantime, I’m in dialog with a movie producer. He likes Shanghaied’s story and my writing but it would be an expensive movie to make. So, he needs to interest more producers in it. What he’s asked for and I’ve given are: 1. a synopsis and 2. something he calls a “deck:” storyline, character sketches, images…for the short attention spans of busy people.

THIS could be exciting but it’s a very long shot. So, I’m not letting myself get too excited but hey! Why not aim high? And wouldn’t it help sell books?
