Giving thanks

From the official regulations of the Royal Navy 1756 - 1970? (yes, 1970) - Grog: ships on long voyages carried casks of water that didn’t take long to develop algae. To make the water palatable, rum was added. At first the ratio was four to one, water to rum (officers were entitled to undiluted rum), Then it became two to one but the rum of that day was 54.6% alcohol while most rum today is 40%. If you want to approximate the experience of Shanghaied’s characters, mix 5 ounces of water with 3 ounces of rum (yes, 8 ounces total) and drink it twice a day. Whew!

I have more thanks to give than I can account for. New to my long list, I thank you, the readers of Shanghaied. Be well, be kind and enjoy.
