Re-thinking book tours
I snapped this photo when we stopped by Saba in 2013. When the Dutch West India Company settled the island in 1634…they likely built this stairway to haul the materials to the top of the island to build their village. In the midst of that, up and down and up, maybe they re-thought their plan too. Whew! They then named that village “Bottom?” (good sense of humor, that!) Now I imagine the crew of Voila climbing these steps.
My author talk last week was attended by only three people (besides family and friends - thank you!). Three books sold, but all told, a pretty disappointing evening, even in my home town and after good promotion. Maybe I’ll have better luck in a big city like Seattle, or I should stick to maritime museums? A friend suggests that if I join the 21st century (and Instagram), I will reach far more people than any book tour can. Watch out social media!
